Cause Communities

Joining a Cause Community.

A cause community is a bigger place where people take their causes to network. Unlike joining a cause, where you personally are joining it, with Cause Communities, it is your cause that joins. Then, everyone who is a friend of your cause automatically becomes a member of that Cause Community. Over time, there will be many Cause Communities. You’ll be able to search for them in MeetUp, and link your causes to the Communities that are most relevant to the issues you are hoping to address.

Starting a Cause Community.

Cause Communities can be started by anyone who already has developed a group of friends supporting a specific cause. For instance if you started a cause promoting beach clean up, and built a large group of friends around it, you should also consider starting your own Cause Community around beach clean-up. Then others within MyGoodDeed who may have started similar beach clean up causes can join your Cause Community and communicate more easily. Then, as a Cause Community leader, you’ll be able to talk to all of the members of the Cause Community and deliver important messages, create a community-wide blog, and post videos and other information. You can start a Cause Community any time you want, but you really should wait until you have at least 20 friends supporting your cause. It is also a good idea to search first to see if a similar Cause Community has already been created. Maybe you’ll want to join that one instead.

But it is OK to create your own Cause Community even if it overlaps with one that exists already. Remember that you’ll be in competition with other Cause Communities and in order to attract people to your community, you’ll have to keep your content interesting and new.
